Lonely Planet W.A. coverThis post is all about covers. Above the cover of the Lonely Planet, West Africa and there’s a connection with FOUR VILLAGES INN. The photograph of the Kano musician was taken by Bob Burch who just happens to be  along time friend of ours and… our web master. To see more of his quality work, go to our web site (see blog roll and click on THE VILLAGE NEWS. There are 17 editions chalk full of Bob’s excellent work!

Now onto the subject at hand, the cover of the upcoming 5th edition of the most popular guide on Ghana THE BRADT GUIDE TO GHANA by Philip Briggs.  Ghana has recently been branded by the phrase  ‘WARMTH, CULTURE AND MUCH, MUCH MORE”  The Ashanti Region of Ghana has often been labeled as the “heartbeat of Ghanaian culture” and “the heartland of Ghanaian culture.  Four Villages mentioned this to Kim Wildman, the Bradt researcher for the upcoming 5th edition adding that it would be nice to see the next cover featuring “something cultural-chiefs, kente etc.” It was also pointed out that the first four covers really didn’t capture this dynamic of Ghana. Incidentally,  recent statistics from the Ghana Tourist Board indicate that only about 34% of tourists explore Ashanti, a surprising stat given how much this region has to offer!
