On September 22, u.s. President Obama hosted a luncheon attended by twenty-five African Heads of State reiterating his theme that a peaceful prosperous Africa is vital to the world community.
President Obama highlighted the importance of partnership and creating opportunity in Africa, through creating jobs, encouraging investment and strengthening the agricultural sector and agricultural productivity. The president also used his opening remarks to stress the importance of addressing corruption head-on to promote trade, investment and jobs creation.
All this frankly is contingent on a healthy active population which means strong government health services which means well equipped and staffed hospitals and clinics.
To add tangible significance to these words, this post describes a wonderful partnership between Rotary Clubs in the U.S. and Ghana along with a U.S. based N.G.O. Africa Partners Medical( http://www.africapartnersmedical.org), Olmsted Outreach, Cleveland Clinic and the Mayo Clinic all of Cleveland, Ohio. To give credit where credit is due, the following Rotary Clubs played an integral part in the success of the project: Rotary Club of Kumasi East, Ghana, Rotary Club of Rochester Minnesota, Rotary Club of Greater Rochester, Rotary Club of Rochester Risers, and the Rotary Club of Zumbrota as well as Medwish, Cleveland, Ohio.
This project has two important facets:
1. The delivery of US$450,000 in medical equipment to various health facilities in the West African sub region and…
2. Special training by a team of U.S. medical personnel in the areas of Intensive Care Medicine, Cardiology, Laparoscopic Surgery, Ultrasound and Management of Obstetric Emergencies.
Africa Partners Medical has the goal to establish a Cardiac and Gastro-Endoscopy Centre at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital here in Kumasi.
On September 24, 2009, the official presentation was made at K.A.T.H., Kumasi.
