Here’s a fascinating report on Fareed Zakaria’s great site GPS (Global Public Square) on how technology has transformed emergency aid. The basic premise is through available technologies disaster victims can now receive direct cash transfers.

Comment: A lot of aid goes to northern Ghana. I remember a diplomat saying that if all the money that has gone north through government programs and aid assistance had gone directly to the people, they would all be driving around in Mercedes Benzs and living in luxury houses!
Well, bring on the technology and watch people’s lives improve dramatically!
