Here’s where I read it first on Monday February 11…on the somewhat salacious Ghanaweb website….note at the head of the article it says the death happened on a Wednesday, that was Wednesday, January 30th! Ghana’s The Daily Guide first covered the story, but I missed that as Google News Accra and Ghana section only carried the Ghanaweb article. Say, if you’ve got a minute look at the over 50 comments following the Ghana…a couple of them I replied to.

Then, the story appeared on the February 12 morning edition of the Toronto Star’s web site. No details on the circumstances….

And lastly, the Ottawa Sun picked up the story which reflects the original breaking news story on the Ghanaweb and the Daily Guide.

Sad? Yes, that a middle-aged married man on official Canadian government business ends up this way…

Sad? Yes, that the Canadian High Commission tries to stonewall the story and further tries to deny that this guy was on Canadian government business here in Ghana.

Sad? Yes, that prostitution is on the rise here in Ghana and goes unchecked in the big luxury hotels where diplomats etc. are lodged by their governments on expense account. I hope the realigned Ministry of Gender, Women and Social Protection under Minister Nana Oye Lithur, Human Rights lawyer and champion of the oppressed, will address the issue.

Sad? Yes, that cocaine is becoming so readily available here in Ghana. The Kofi Annan Foundation that just launched a commission on drugs last month given the rise in drug trafficking in and through West Africa, has a lot of work to do.

I heard from a diplomat that cocaine was being GIVEN FREE on the street of Accra to grow the demand. He said that in all his experience he had never seen that before in any country he had worked in! I bet the deceased didn’t get his high free…..

Sad. Yes…all round.
