…just shows you how important tourism is to that nation…if only in Ghana!

Ghana last hosted the Africa Travel Association Congress in May, 2006 and only managed to attract the Minister of Tourism and the VP of Ghana,Jake
…and no US Embassy representation because by that time (and I was on the scene then), as I remember, USAID had pulled out of supporting tourism for numerous reasons including a failure to maintain their supported tourism sites….
Today was quite a day on SCRAP SHORT TERM TOURIST VISAS TO GHANA Facebook group page. First posted UN encourages travel to ‘vibrant’ Ebola-hit West Africa
I prefaced the article with:

GHANA IS VIBRANT AND ALIVE AS WELL AND… NO EBOLA, BUT THE Ghana Tourism SECTOR NEEDS MORE THAN ENCOURAGEMENT FROM THE UN. IT NEEDS GOVERNANCE AT HOME. tagged to:Ghana Tourism Authority Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Ghana

This I followed up with two related quotes, first on the three-month ban decree banning international conferences in Ghana that expires TODAY

Christopher Scott say tourism community, speaking of governance, has anybody heard whether or not the (tagged) MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND REGIONAL INTEGRATION’s three-month ban on international conferences has been lifted or not??? TODAY marks three months since the decree. tagged to Touristswatch.com

and second, which I have copied and pasted on the Africa Travel Association FB site

Christopher Scott A topical breakout session is being held at the Africa Travel Association Congress now in Kampala Uganda…”ATA WORLD CONGRESS: Jeff Chatterton, Crisis Communication Expert and ATA Member, will present “Bounce Back Even Stronger: PR and Crisis Communication Management Tools” to empower tour operators, and Tourism Ministry Officials to successfully promote their destination and overcome image challenges!” NOT SURE IF GHANA IS A MEMBER OF ATA, BUT IT SURE WOULD BE NICE IF Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Ghana and other West African tourism ministries got a synopsis of the ideas presented. tagged to Tougha Ghana Ghana Tourism Federation – Ghatof Ghana Tourism Authority
